Description

Nice and simple. 

Ingredients
  • 700 ml tomatoes passata
  • 500 ml water
  • 750 g minced meat (pork, mixed)
  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons salsa (optional)
  • 1/3 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon sweet red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked red pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
    • Pour water, passata, 1/3 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of dried basil and oregano, bay leaf into a deeper pot and bring to the boil.
    • Add rice, egg, 2/3 teaspoon salt, pepper, salsa, coriander, ground red pepper, 1/4 teaspoon dried basil and oregano to the minced meat and mix well
    • Shape meatballs the size of smaller apricots
    • Add the meatballs to the boiling tomato sauce, cover and cook over low heat for about 40 minutes
    • Check the taste of the sauce and add salt or pepper to taste
    The sauce will thicken due to rice starch, but if it is too runny you can add 1 teaspoon of starch flour dissolved in 1 ml of cold water.
    • Serve with mashed potatoes
